Summary
Limerick City and County Council administers the Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme, the Mobility Aid Grant Scheme, the Housing Aid for Older Persons Scheme and the Disabled Person's Grant Scheme which are governed by the Housing (Adaptation Grants for Older People and Disabled People) Regulations 2024. The purpose of these schemes is to assist in the carrying out of works that are reasonably necessary for the purpose of rendering a house more suitable for the accommodation of a person with a disability who is a member of the household.
For the purposes of the Schemes, disability is defined by regulation as "an enduring physical sensory, mental health or intellectual impairment. Applications are prioritised on the basis of medical needs.
To ensure that the works carried out are appropriate to the long-term circumstances of the person for whom the grant is sought, Limerick City and County Council commissions an occupational therapy report.
