Insurance covering claims arising from professional negligence, often required as a selection criterion on Irish public service contracts.
PI insurance covers a service provider against claims for losses caused by negligent advice, design or service delivery. On Irish public contracts (consultancy, design, IT and professional services) it is usually required as a selection criterion under Regulation 58(3), with cover levels typically set at €1m to €6.5m per claim. Cover must be maintained for the duration of the contract and often for a defined run-off period after completion (commonly six or twelve years on construction-related design work).
